The pages 20 and 21 of the Calendar list the college academic staff in 1956 by departments. In the department of Philosophy (p.21), departmental Professor Arthur N. Prior, M.A. (NZ), appointed in 1952, is on leave, and the lecturer is J.M. Shorter M.A. (Oxon). There is a junior lecturer appointed that year, J.C. Thornton, M.A.(NZ).
